Turkish Bath
(Hamam)
Hamam is a well known Islamic habit. Hamam means warming up in Arabic.
Actually the origin of Hamam is Roman steam bath. Hamam was accepted in the Islamic world easily as people are fond of keeping body and mind clean and healthy.
Hamam has become very important spiritual facility the same as mosque and Madra.
Hamam is separated for ladies and gentlemen, of course.
In Islamic society women were dominated by men.
So Hamam was the only place for women to be relieved from men.
It is an important women’s social facility for chatting and having tea.
Some women look for a bride for her son and prepare for their ceremony in Haman.
These days, Hamam is refurbished for tourists. First of all, it warms up your body in sauna.
Then get a body scrub massage on marble bed.
Bubble massage and finally washing your body with a hot shower.
I strongly recommend visiting Hamam. It is a good place to experience Islamic culture.
